This weekend, the t-ball team was short a few players. Spencer was called up from the practice team to fill in. He was one of the smallest on the field, but played well, even teaming up with Jack for an out!

Sometime late last summer, the sports gene kicked in for Jack and Spence. They went from mildly interested to rabid sports fans in a matter of days. The World Cup and MLB All-Star game definitely helped. Otherwise, the transition was fast. Suddenly Jack could spew all sorts of sports stats (from that season) and was desperate to watch all baseball and football. Well, we've now moved on from being spectators. Jack started little league t-ball a couple of weekends ago. The team is called the Royals and is made up of 10, 5 year olds. They play Sunday morning in Morningside Park under the watch of the amazing cathedral St. John the Divine. Justin jumped in too, taking on head coaching responsibilities as well as being the assistant director for the league. It's really a family affair. The big event the first weekend was handing out uniforms. Jack wore his (shocker, he's #2). So when the other kids got theirs, they immediately changed to match. They were so excited! Then ...
Save this one under "things that didn't happen when I was five" This afternoon, I was battling it out with Jack over what to listen to on Spotify. But here's the kicker, he was using the iPad at our house and I was at work on my phone...Spotify has really strict (maybe too strict?) user limits for a single account. He wanted Maroon 5. I wanted my "Running" playlist. Back and forth we went switching between songs... Ah technology. At least I'm kind of keeping up.
A few weeks ago, during what was probably the coldest week of the winter, the boys Dad and Grandma Wanda came up for a visit. The only plus about coming to NYC that week was that it was just as cold in Greensboro. This trip was Wanda's first trip to the Big Apple and Dad's first in a very long time. We made the most of it while also trying to stay inside, out of the fierce wind. We hit some of the top spots in the city: Times Square Toys R Us (yes, these are everywhere, but the one in Times Square is insane) Grand Central - including the Shake Shack downstairs Train World (ok, not at the top of most tourist lists, but still cool) Top of the Rock (not the tallest observatory in the city, but the best view) 9/11 Museum and Memorial Dad and Wanda got their fill of the subway - they are likely experts by now.
