Jack & Spencer's World

Talking to Spence this evening, I said one of these days you'll fill out (because he's so skinny) His response: "Yea, when I'm a Daddy."

We welcomed a new pet to our home: Echo, a lovely red Betta. The name is all Spence, though he did pose a few other suggestions. Spence: I'm going to name it Bluey. Me: the fish is red. Spence: then I'll name it Reddy. Me: Let's stick with Echo. That's a cool name.

Spence: can I at least have a pasta taco? Maybe I should try it just to get them to try tacos...

Jack pitched for the Bluebirds today. He started and pitched three full innings. He faced 9 batters and got 9 outs. Not a bad start.

"Mom, you're the best at Purel parking."

Jack has a school project due this Friday. The project is to visit a specific historic landmark in the city and then put together a write-up about the visit and place. Jack's location is Hamilton Grange which was the country home of Alexander Hamilton. We visited a few weeks ago (yep, we've have the assignment this long). Finally, Jack started putting together the project today. OMG, it was like watching me from 30 years ago. There was denial and defensiveness, then came tears and finally he produced really good work. If this is what the next 15 years are going to be like, we are in trouble. Also - sorry Mom, I know I tortured you with this experience many many times.

At a recent Staten Island Yankees game, Spencer had the privilege of throwing a pitch to a real minor league player.

I found this breaking news article from Jack in the boys' room this week. His Great-Granddad, who was a sports writer, would be proud.

Spencer is a big Mo Willems fan. He loves the Pigeon books. And he loves the Elephant & Piggie books. They make him smile and laugh. Most of all, they make him proud because he can read them to us. New York Historical Society currently has a great exhibit on Mo Willems. We finally checked it out this afternoon. It was Mo Willems heaven and Spencer loved it. He intently listened to the audio info at all of the bus stops in the exhibit (Mo Willems narrates!), longingly perused the Moseum gift shop (see what they did there?), and read several books. It was so fun to see him loving it all. Driving home from Massachusetts, we were in and out of rain showers. At one point, Justin had turned the wipers up because the rain had increased. He left them up after the rain died down a bit. Jack helpfully pointed out that Justin didn't need the wipers anymore. Why is this story worthy? Because one of my big pet peeves is windshield wipers up too high and that Jack commented on the wipers on his very own. Sometimes he's definitely my son.

Jenn: are you guys going to be NBA players? Jack: I don't know. We have to get through college first

This is Spencer's version of a family dance party. Boogie down.

This evening, Jack came into our room to ask us something. He looked a little peakish, so I said, "do you feel ok? You look a little green." Then I left to address what Jack had originally asked. Justin followed up by asking him if he felt ok. Jack said the he felt fine, but that he was going to look in the mirror to see if he was actually green. Oh such a literal life.

It was three months ago, but we're still excited that Spence turned 4!! He's growing up so so fast. We celebrated his birthday with loads of friends at an action packed party. The only time the kids stopped moving was to have cake and even that was short lived. It was a great party for a special boy!

Where have we been all summer? Most likely at a sporting event. Lots to share from this summer - most good, some sad. I'm starting with a round up of sporting events. After a small snafu of buying tickets for the wrong game, we enjoyed a fun, cool night of minor league ball.
