Babies R Us

...is not my favorite store. I have a variety of reasons that may appear in a later blog. I will share today's experience.

I packed up Jack and drove to the Babies R Us in Paramus, NJ. This store is pretty mediocre in general, but it's the easiest one to get to with a car.

I took my time reviewing options for some of the things I wanted to pick up. Jack was great - he slept in his car seat the whole time - despite the loud shoppers and frequent PA announcements. As I was checking out, Jack decided that he was hungry and told me in the only way he knows how - by crying.

The lady at the register doesn't seem to understand that a crying baby means move faster. She starts by asking my phone number and then doesn't recognize my area code. As she is scanning the items, one comes up "do not sell." She ponders this and then says she'll need to figure out why. I have to ask her to put it aside. Then she uses the wand scanner for a larger item. After scanning the item, she knocks over a set of discount cards that she promptly spends time picking up. Remember, Jack is crying this entire time. She was just clueless. She even had the gall to ask if I wanted to open a Babies R Us credit card. Sure lady, let's run a quick credit check while my baby screams - sounds like a GREAT idea.

We could not get out of there fast enough.

Veritable Dutch Wonderland

Mother's Day weekend, we planned a little trip out of NYC. We headed to Lancaster, PA - close enough for a night away, but far enough away to feel very different than NYC. The weekend was a lot of fun (and honestly a lot of work). All in all, the boys did well. Highlights below: Dutch Wonderland Lancaster is home to several tourist things. We picked one: Dutch Wonderland family amusement park. My cynical self really doubted that we'd enjoy this experience. I was worried that it would be cheesy. But I was wrong. Well yes, it was kind of cheesy because it was a family amusement park. But it was so fun. The place was very geared to families with young children. The rides are categorized by height so it's easy to know what rides your kids can ride. Jack tried several rides: big trucks, bulldozers, leaping frogs, the monorail. He even drove a car! He had a really good time. Spence was a good sport as there wasn't much for him to do. Maybe next year. Justin felt right ...
