1 Year!!

Ok - really 13 months!! :)

Jack has had a great first month as a one year old. He had two fun birthday parties, has learned new tricks, and mastered the art of crawling and cruising.

NYC Party
On August 14th, we threw a first birthday for Jack in Central Park. The day could not have been more beautiful. The temperatures had cooled down a bit, the sky was Carolina blue, and there was a great breeze. Many friends and some family joined us for the celebration - Grandma Judy flew in for the event. It was very fun to see Jack interact with the other little ones. In fact, Jack got his first kiss from Niamh at the beginning of the party.

Jack seemed to really enjoy the presents - the tissue paper and bags were so much fun and then the toys were a better treat. He did NOT like the singing part and had nothing to do with his cake.

Massachusetts Party
The next weekend, we headed to Massachusetts where Linda and Billy (Mimi and Poppy) hosted another party. Friends that we haven't seen in several years and lots of family turned out. Kids were running everywhere. It was a blast. We had such good a time catching up with friends and meeting their kids.

Again, Jack wasn't into the singing and cake. He had just woken up from a nap (yes, the birthday boy took his afternoon nap in the middle of his party) and the large group of folks kind of freaked him out. He also steered clear of the cake. Oh well! Next year, we'll get the funny cake smeared face picture.

Atlanta Visit
The week before Labor Day, we headed to Atlanta. It was a very relaxed week. Fortunately, the heat broke some so the weather was absolutely fantastic. We enjoyed having the outdoors so readily available! Justin grilled dinner almost every evening. We spent lots of time enjoying the deck, particularly at night when it was cool out.

One day, we took Jack to Zoo Atlanta. All in all, very impressed. It's a great size for zoo - not too big or small, with just enough interesting animals to see. We've taken Jack to the Bronx Zoo and the Central Park zoo on several occasions. With this trip, he truly responded to the animals. We saw elephants, giraffes (including a baby giraffe born on July 13th), a tiger that looked at Jack as if he'd be a tasty little treat, gorillas with a baby gorilla, zebras, merkats, and all sorts of other things. It was a ton of fun!

We also met Emma Foley - Katie and Brian's little girl. Jack gave her a bop on the head as his welcome. She is a cutie and so laid back! It was so neat to see our good friends as new parents!

Lastly, we made it to the Torero not once, but twice!!

It was a busy few weeks, but we so enjoyed seeing everyone and celebrating Jack's birthday. Now we're preparing for fall!

Now, the best part - the pictures:

Echo echo echo...

We welcomed a new pet to our home: Echo, a lovely red Betta. The name is all Spence, though he did pose a few other suggestions. Spence: I'm going to name it Bluey. Me: the fish is red. Spence: then I'll name it Reddy. Me: Let's stick with Echo. That's a cool name.

Sunday Afternoon in the Park

Could be a well known play, but in this case, it's the new Yankee Stadium. I picked up tickets Thursday afternoon for today's game against the Toronto Blue Jays. This is the first game we've been to at the new stadium. The new stadium is very nice - much more in line with other new stadiums. There is a lot more space in the walkways - more food options - and much better bathrooms! The latter being most important to me right now. Our tickets were in left field in the upper deck. All in all, decent seats - but the sun made them a bit unbearable. The game started off slow - I mean slow. The first two innings took almost 2 hours. We were roasting in the sun! Eventually, we decided to walk around to check out the rest of the stadium and get out of the sun. The game got much better after we starting moving. Eventually, we ended up on the first level watching the game from the walkway. The pregnancy bump paid off, because one of the ushers in this area let us sit down in the shade
