Fiscal Responsibility

This afternoon, Jack found a penny and a quarter on the walk to and from the ice cream shop. This is exciting stuff for a little guy. He carefully held on to each coin along the way.

When we got home, I thought it would be cute to introduce the concept of the piggy bank. I pulled down one given to us when Jack was born and proceeded to put the penny in expecting Jack to enjoy the process and the noise.

Well, I was wrong. Jack looked at me as if I'd kicked his cat. He was almost in tears - especially after I convinced him to put the quarter in as well. I'm thinking to myself, "Great Jenn. Jack's first exposure to saving is a painful one - what precedent will this set?". With some quick thinking, I grabbed a few other quarters from Justin's change and gave those to Jack. It saved the day. His mood turned around as he had several items to put into the "money saver" as he called it (seriously - those are his words).

Phew - hopefully this is the beginning of fiscal responsibility! ;)

Spencer Time

A few recent pictures of Spencer. He is growing like crazy and picking up all sorts of new skills like grabbing toys on the playmat, grabbing blankets or clothes and shoving them in his mouth, and his new favorite pastime, putting his feet in his mouth (with or without socks!).     Learning all the tricks on his first flight. We lucked out and got an extra seat for his carseat (ok, I lucked out, but still...)  Sleepy times with Grandma    Enjoying a new toy!   Such a big boy

Called up

This weekend, the t-ball team was short a few players. Spencer was called up from the practice team to fill in. He was one of the smallest on the field, but played well, even teaming up with Jack for an out!

Growing up

Jack and Spence "graduated" from their respective preschool programs in the last couple of weeks. While the road along the way wasn't always the smoothest, the outcome couldn't be better. At Spencer's 2s club event, the kids demonstrated all the new skills they had learned in the gym. Lots of forward rolls, big jumps on the trampoline, and amazing core strength. The kids then enjoyed their favorite book of the year: mean soup. Afterward each child received an award. Spencer followed Jack's footsteps on this part by refusing to go up to accept the award. Regardless, we were so proud of Spence. He loved having his independence, being involved in a class, making new friends, and just having fun. Next year Spence starts preschool at the Y. Jack's tender care graduation was last friday. The event was held in the Little Theater at the Y. Jack was so excited to be on the stage. The class sang several songs ending with what has to be the anthem of kids 3...
