Voicemail

This afternoon, Justin, who had taken the day off, checked his voicemail and found that he had seven messages. He felt really important until he listened to them and found that six were from Jack. Jack had had some free time with my phone this morning while we were waiting for his surgery.

And that's my segue to the real story...

Jack had minor surgery this afternoon. Everything went well. Jack is fine and in a deep sleep right now. He will be out of commission for a couple of days, but we expect him to be back to normal (well, really better than normal) in a week.

This experience was a tough one. We knew it was coming and that it would be tough. Jack surprised us in that he was such a trooper even though he was hungry and tired. I took him into the operating room. It was hard to see him get upset at the new and slightly scary setting, but he was under anesthesia so quickly that even that part wasn't that hard. The most difficult part was in recovery. He was really really upset by the time that we arrived. It took a while for him to calm down once we arrived. He relaxed further once we got home. Now he's asleep with the help of a long day (and some codeine).

Fortunately, this is a one time thing that needed to be done.

Fortunately, Jack is two and will most likely never remember this experience (though we definitely will).

Fortunately, he was in good hands at the hospital.

Fortunately, he heals really fast and should be back to his old self in no time.

But most fortunately, everything went smoothly for our wonderful little boy.

School Projects

Jack has a school project due this Friday. The project is to visit a specific historic landmark in the city and then put together a write-up about the visit and place. Jack's location is Hamilton Grange which was the country home of Alexander Hamilton. We visited a few weeks ago (yep, we've have the assignment this long). Finally, Jack started putting together the project today. OMG, it was like watching me from 30 years ago. There was denial and defensiveness, then came tears and finally he produced really good work. If this is what the next 15 years are going to be like, we are in trouble. Also - sorry Mom, I know I tortured you with this experience many many times.
