All quiet on the southern front

I'm totally jinxing myself...regardless, I had to post.

It's 8:07 pm, Tuesday, February 7, 2012. Spence was asleep by 7:15. Jack was in bed IN THE SAME ROOM, by 7:40. IT WAS QUIET BY 8 PM!!!!!

To catch you up, this is the first night in a while that I've tried putting both boys in the room together for the night. Spence has had a variety of "bedrooms": 1) co-sleeper in the foyer by the kitchen, 2) mini-crib in our room, 3) mini-crib in my closet, 4) now, the big crib in the boys' room.

Recently, Jack's sleeping situation has also changed. Since he came home from the hospital, Jack has been in his room (now his and Spence's room) in the big crib. We moved him to the toddler bed in October - a move that he loved (big phew from us). At the beginning of this year, we moved his mattress into our room. He's slept there most of this year while Spence adjusted to the big crib and worked to sleep through the night. Fortunately, Jack was a trooper and settled in nicely. For Justin and I, Jack was a much quieter sleeping companion than Spence...and it was kind of neat having him right there. That being said, we are ready to have our room back to ourselves!

Justin is out of the country for the next few days (he's heading to China for about 43 hours total). I decided to suck it up and get these kids rooming together. Fortunately, my mom flies in tomorrow in case I need some nighttime support. Yea for Grandma!!

So there you have it - two boys in one room. The quiet in the house right now is wonderful. Fingers crossed that they make it through the night. I'll update tomorrow. Oh, and I'm definitely going to bed by 9 pm. :)

Oh - one quick explanation - the boys' room is the southern bedroom in our condo - hence the title of the post.

UPDATE-

The night of this post went ok. I was a bit of wreck because I was home alone (meaning Justin was traveling) and I never sleep well in that situation. Jack was up around 11 but a quick check and tuck-in settled him. He was up again at 4 am. I moved him into my room. Spence was up at 5 am. He took a bottle and fell right back to sleep. We all slept until 7:30 which was great.

The second night, the boys made it until 6:15. Spence woke up around 4 am, chattered a bit, but fortunately, he got himself back to sleep and didn't wake Jack.

The third night (last night), I got the boys down later than I had. Spence pulled the blanket down and could see Jack. The two of them were chatty chatty chatty - which was cute for a few minutes, but kept them up way too late. At 9 pm, I moved Jack into my room, gave Spence a small bottle, and let him get himself back to sleep. I moved Jack back into his room around 10. Spence woke up at little before 6 am. Not a great night, but we'll keep trying.

Called up

This weekend, the t-ball team was short a few players. Spencer was called up from the practice team to fill in. He was one of the smallest on the field, but played well, even teaming up with Jack for an out!

Veritable Dutch Wonderland

Mother's Day weekend, we planned a little trip out of NYC. We headed to Lancaster, PA - close enough for a night away, but far enough away to feel very different than NYC. The weekend was a lot of fun (and honestly a lot of work). All in all, the boys did well. Highlights below: Dutch Wonderland Lancaster is home to several tourist things. We picked one: Dutch Wonderland family amusement park. My cynical self really doubted that we'd enjoy this experience. I was worried that it would be cheesy. But I was wrong. Well yes, it was kind of cheesy because it was a family amusement park. But it was so fun. The place was very geared to families with young children. The rides are categorized by height so it's easy to know what rides your kids can ride. Jack tried several rides: big trucks, bulldozers, leaping frogs, the monorail. He even drove a car! He had a really good time. Spence was a good sport as there wasn't much for him to do. Maybe next year. Justin felt right ...

3 Perfect Innings

Jack pitched for the Bluebirds today. He started and pitched three full innings. He faced 9 batters and got 9 outs. Not a bad start.
