11 Months!

Spencer turned 11 months old today. He (and Jack) celebrated by sleeping through the night until 6:45 this morning! Mommy and Daddy like this kind of celebration.

Spencer, a few things about you at this point in time:

1. You love your Mom and Dad and prefer to be in our arms over pretty much anything else. Except of course, when you don't prefer this, at which point you scream. On to point 2...

2. You have a well developed set of lungs. You can scream. We think it's your way of saying "get me out of this chair/stroller/exersaucer/crib" or "I don't like this food" or "I'm full" or "I'm hungry" or "I dropped my toy please hand it to me" or "I dropped my toy and never want to see it again" or "I pooped"or "I didn't poop, I just want your attention" or perhaps something else. We're hoping to narrow down the cause soon (or hey, just start talking, ok?)

3. Pureed foods is for babies...just not this baby. You hate pureed foods. Now we're figuring out what to feed you. You love scrambled eggs (except when you don't). You like french fries (except when you don't). You like pasta and cheese (this one you generally like all the time - just like your brother). In one way, getting past pureed foods is good because we'll have you eating what we eat sooner. In another way, it's sad not to have the crutch of conveniently packaged food that you'll gobble up.

4. Being strapped in is one of your least favorite activities. You generally arch your back until your head almost touches your feet every time we try to put you in the stroller, car seat, or high chair. This action is of course accompanied by dramatic screaming. Please stop. It makes your parents look like we're abusing you and we'd prefer not to have child services knocking at our door.

5. You still love being held...especially when you're tired. You would absolutely love it if we held you and rocked you to sleep every night.

6. Athletics might be your thing. In the last four weeks, you've learned to clap your hands (baby clap, baby clap), wave (without looking like the Pope greeting his people), and blow kisses (ok, so this is licking your palm, but still close). You love activity and seem to pick it up quite quickly. If you weren't such a fast crawler, you may be walking already.

7. You are a chatterbox. You and Jack share this trait. I suppose it's nice to know that my boys picked up something from me given that you both look like your Daddy. Jack asks lots of questions. You repeat sounds, playing with your intonation for fun. Your toys must be great conversationalists as you can chat with them for quite some time (I'm not complaining, you're able to entertain yourself during these chats).

 8. You seek out anything that could hurt you. Electric sockets, electric cords, cat food, sticks and rocks, fans. You put whatever you find in your mouth or if that's not possible, you try to put your fingers in the rest. I'm hoping you make it to three with all ten digits fully intact.

You've amazed us these last 11 months. We can't wait to see what comes next. We love you more than you'll ever know.

Called up

This weekend, the t-ball team was short a few players. Spencer was called up from the practice team to fill in. He was one of the smallest on the field, but played well, even teaming up with Jack for an out!

Veritable Dutch Wonderland

Mother's Day weekend, we planned a little trip out of NYC. We headed to Lancaster, PA - close enough for a night away, but far enough away to feel very different than NYC. The weekend was a lot of fun (and honestly a lot of work). All in all, the boys did well. Highlights below: Dutch Wonderland Lancaster is home to several tourist things. We picked one: Dutch Wonderland family amusement park. My cynical self really doubted that we'd enjoy this experience. I was worried that it would be cheesy. But I was wrong. Well yes, it was kind of cheesy because it was a family amusement park. But it was so fun. The place was very geared to families with young children. The rides are categorized by height so it's easy to know what rides your kids can ride. Jack tried several rides: big trucks, bulldozers, leaping frogs, the monorail. He even drove a car! He had a really good time. Spence was a good sport as there wasn't much for him to do. Maybe next year. Justin felt right ...

Good Morning

What is my big brother doing to me? Brothers hanging in Mommy and Daddy's bed.
