Spencer is 1!!

Spencer turned one on Friday June 1st. Unbelievable. How is our baby boy already one!?!?

This year has been interesting - I'm quite happy that we are past a few phases. And there are a few that I'd like to pass soon (note this refers to your need to scream frequently). Regardless, it has been amazing watching you grow and learn. It's also been amazing watching you and Jack bond and become true brothers. I really can't wait to see how you and Jack grow together - you'll definitely keep us on our toes.

Spencer's year in review.

June - Your birthday:  June 1, 2011 - but just barely! We questioned whether you'd be a May or June baby but you waited until 1:47 am to make your entrance into the world (you'd already made your way into our hearts). Your birth was an amazing experience.

July - Your first few months, you slept well and almost anywhere. One of your favorite spots was on the activity mat - even with Jack running around playing. While all the "experts" say back is best, you loved your belly (and do to this day).

August came and we took you on your first trips! First, we traveled to Massachusetts to visit Mimi and Poppy, and meet Aunt Cristine, Uncle Jay, and your cousins Connor and Julia. You loved everyone you met...well almost everyone, maybe Uncle Jay pinched you. :) For the next trip, we loaded up the car (big time - I even bought a rooftop carrier bag) and headed to NC and then on to Myrtle Beach. We were chased away early by a hurricane (you can read more about that here).

September - Feet and toes! You found what has to be one of your favorite toys yet! You also started to form your plot to take over the world...or maybe you just pooped?

In October, you took your first flight. You were a great traveler. If you'd only known that we were travelling to sleep train you, you may have pitched a bigger fit. October also brought your first Halloween The monkey costume was too cute to pass up. You'll forgive us eventually.

By November, you were becoming more and more active. The exersaucer became a favorite play spot - you were able to play AND stand up to see what was going on around you. Best of all, Jack often came over to play with you (and sometimes give you great big brother kisses). The smiles and giggles were contagious. We celebrated an early with Thanksgiving in Massachusetts - the best picture is of you talking with Aunt Barbara. Priceless.

December was full of new adventures. You were starting to sit up on your on and really really wanted to crawl. You also had your first Christmas! We spent the holidays in Williamstown, Ma with friends. The highlight of the vacation was meeting Monkey. Monkey has become your bud. You like to fling him by one arm, throw him from the crib, and, his favorite, chew on his nose. In other words, Monkey is well loved.

Shortly after the holidays, we had our first snow in January. Surprisingly, this was the only snowstorm that accumulated much of anything. We made the most of it - heading to Central Park for some sledding. Well, you didn't really sled, but you did look super cute in the snowsuit and your hat! You also figured out crawling. It didn't take you long to master it. You were banging around the entire house (which doesn't really say too much). Being in control of your location (for the most part), made you quite happy.

February brought lots funny faces and I think was the beginning of screaming in your chair. Maybe the screaming overshadowed everything else as this is all that I can think of for the month!

You turned on the charm for St. Pat's day in March, showing off your beautiful blue eyes. Crawling was starting to get boring, so you started cruising. At first, you just loved pulling yourself up to stand - then you figured out that you could move around. Then, you figured out that you could reach things you couldn't reach anymore. (then mommy learned that you're growing really fast!). We also went to NC again - this time befriending lots of goats, emus, and puppies. All in all, March was a fun month.

In April, you got your first Easter basket! Well...Jack got his first Easter basket and you helped him enjoy it! You also learned the joys of crawling up and down Mimi and Poppy's stairs. So fun! In addition to visiting Massachusetts, we headed to Atlanta for several days. You met new friends like you - baby Mikey - and of a more furry sort - Abby!

May was here before we knew it! You and Jack have become best brothers and good friends. You love sharing a room with him. And though he stills calls it "his" room, Jack loves having you there. Watching your relationship develop is something special.

Now you're 1 - HOORAY!! Your first year has been so special, so full, and so fun. Your giggles and smiles remind us how good life is.

We love you Spencer-Doo!!
Mama, Dada, and Jack

Echo echo echo...

We welcomed a new pet to our home: Echo, a lovely red Betta. The name is all Spence, though he did pose a few other suggestions. Spence: I'm going to name it Bluey. Me: the fish is red. Spence: then I'll name it Reddy. Me: Let's stick with Echo. That's a cool name.

Sunday Afternoon in the Park

Could be a well known play, but in this case, it's the new Yankee Stadium. I picked up tickets Thursday afternoon for today's game against the Toronto Blue Jays. This is the first game we've been to at the new stadium. The new stadium is very nice - much more in line with other new stadiums. There is a lot more space in the walkways - more food options - and much better bathrooms! The latter being most important to me right now. Our tickets were in left field in the upper deck. All in all, decent seats - but the sun made them a bit unbearable. The game started off slow - I mean slow. The first two innings took almost 2 hours. We were roasting in the sun! Eventually, we decided to walk around to check out the rest of the stadium and get out of the sun. The game got much better after we starting moving. Eventually, we ended up on the first level watching the game from the walkway. The pregnancy bump paid off, because one of the ushers in this area let us sit down in the shade
