A moment of relaxation

Justin and I had the luxury of spending a few days in Miami...by ourselves! It was amazing. We slept until 8:30 am, worked out (ok Justin mainly did this), ate in restaurants after 6 pm (every night!), sat by the pool, enjoyed a few bloody marys and vodka tonics, AND I even read two - count them - two books!

Quick highlights:

  • Our hotel had three pools - each different depths and different temperatures. Lounging around the pool was so relaxing.
  • Yardbird - funny name, amazing, southern food. The.best.chicken.biscuits.ever. I mean ever.
  • Michy's - more so because Philipp and Natasha joined us - we hadn't seen them since our fantastic trip to Lisbon (pre-kids!) (Michy's was unassuming and great too)
  • Bloody Marys - I probably shouldn't include this - but they were really good, the spicier the better!!
  • Happy Anniversary - the second day there, the entire pool staff wished us a Happy Anniversary (we were there to celebrate that and Justin's birthday) - it was a nice touch!
  • Happy Birthday - we celebrated Justin's 40th in style - massages, pool time, and a fun dinner out. It's a big marker, but I think Justin took it all in stride.

Non-highlights:
  • Gratuities added to bills...just annoying.
  • Hurricane Isaac - he cut our vacation short one day and brought lots of rain a wind. Fortunately, we got out ahead of the storm.
  • The plethora of dimmer lights in our hotel room. We never figured them all out.
  • Boobies on the beach. not much more to say.

On that note, I'll continue - while we chilled in Miami, my Mom, Grandma Judy, came to watch the boys. Both Jack and Spence were so excited to see her. I think that they had a great time and were hopefully well enough behaved. A big BIG THANK YOU to mom!!

Now the visuals (no boobies here - though I'm sure Justin wished he had had his phone with him!)
Yum - first bloody mary :)

Lovely welcome to our room

Ready to celebrate Justin's birthday

Spencer Time

A few recent pictures of Spencer. He is growing like crazy and picking up all sorts of new skills like grabbing toys on the playmat, grabbing blankets or clothes and shoving them in his mouth, and his new favorite pastime, putting his feet in his mouth (with or without socks!).     Learning all the tricks on his first flight. We lucked out and got an extra seat for his carseat (ok, I lucked out, but still...)  Sleepy times with Grandma    Enjoying a new toy!   Such a big boy

Called up

This weekend, the t-ball team was short a few players. Spencer was called up from the practice team to fill in. He was one of the smallest on the field, but played well, even teaming up with Jack for an out!

Veritable Dutch Wonderland

Mother's Day weekend, we planned a little trip out of NYC. We headed to Lancaster, PA - close enough for a night away, but far enough away to feel very different than NYC. The weekend was a lot of fun (and honestly a lot of work). All in all, the boys did well. Highlights below: Dutch Wonderland Lancaster is home to several tourist things. We picked one: Dutch Wonderland family amusement park. My cynical self really doubted that we'd enjoy this experience. I was worried that it would be cheesy. But I was wrong. Well yes, it was kind of cheesy because it was a family amusement park. But it was so fun. The place was very geared to families with young children. The rides are categorized by height so it's easy to know what rides your kids can ride. Jack tried several rides: big trucks, bulldozers, leaping frogs, the monorail. He even drove a car! He had a really good time. Spence was a good sport as there wasn't much for him to do. Maybe next year. Justin felt right ...
