Hello 2013

Somehow, a full week has passed into the new year! We had a great holiday and the new year has already been really busy - highlights (and soon pictures) below.

Christmas in Massachusetts
We spent the weekend before Christmas in Massachusetts visiting family there. Jack and Spence had a great time. Jack spent some time driving his "taxi" - but it was really cold so that time was cut a bit short. Spence loved sneaking his way to the stairs to climb those. He's good going up, but still figuring out the coming down part.

Both boys had a great time playing with their cousins Julia, Connor, Jake, and Evyn. Connor taught them both the skill of jumping on and off furniture (a skill we've since worked to unteach...). Julia is growing up so fast! She was great taking care of Spence and is becoming such a mature, responsible young woman.

Jack tends to blurt out the best one-liners. On the drive back to NYC, he had been napping in the back of the car. When he woke up, he said, in a very concerned voice, Momma did you see that car? it was filthy! Nothing, well not much, gets past him.

Christmas in the City
We were in NYC for Christmas. The boys loved the Christmas tree - Jack would turn it on each morning after waking up. Spence would pull on the ornaments that he could reach. The boys received all sorts of great gifts - new trucks, new electronic toys, new books, new puzzles, all sorts of great stuff.

Jack's Grandma Judy came up after Christmas for a quick visit. The boys were so excited to see her! I was also excited to recruit her help in reorganizing a couple of closets. I know - how exciting! We also cooked a Christmas dinner, that despite a specific request, did not include oysters. :)

Now the New Year
Jack started back at preschool on the 2nd. It was a bit tough getting back into the swing of things, but he's settled in now. He's enjoying his class and liking his teachers more. He's also finding new helper roles in his class which he loves.

Spence is adding new words to his vocabulary almost everyday. He loves that we understand what he's saying. He doesn't love that he still doesn't always get what he wants. Spence has also perfected blowing a kiss as his goodbye. Whenever we say, Spence say goodbye, he quickly kisses his hand at the person leaving. It's precious.

We're excited to see what the new year will bring. It's already been busier than expected with even more in the works. Jack and Spence amaze us (and frustrate us) every day. They become closer brothers with each day and it's so fun to watch.

School Projects

Jack has a school project due this Friday. The project is to visit a specific historic landmark in the city and then put together a write-up about the visit and place. Jack's location is Hamilton Grange which was the country home of Alexander Hamilton. We visited a few weeks ago (yep, we've have the assignment this long). Finally, Jack started putting together the project today. OMG, it was like watching me from 30 years ago. There was denial and defensiveness, then came tears and finally he produced really good work. If this is what the next 15 years are going to be like, we are in trouble. Also - sorry Mom, I know I tortured you with this experience many many times.
