The Wonder of Trains

Have you ever been to Flemington, NJ? Have you ever heard of Flemington, NJ? We hadn't either - until this weekend.

Flemington is home to Northlandz which has the world's largest model railroads. Given, that we are not connoisseurs of model railroads, I'm not going to argue with this claim (the site has a seal from the Guinness Book of World Records and when has the internet ever been wrong?). Even if it's not actually the world's largest, it's pretty big - like 8 miles of track with a meandering 1 mile walkway to view it all.

It's big. And the boys absolutely loved it - exclaiming at almost every train that appeared from the nearly 400 tunnels and pointing out all of the bridges (and there were a lot of bridges). It was a fun day - worth the drive and something we'll likely do again.

Of course - pictures.

School Projects

Jack has a school project due this Friday. The project is to visit a specific historic landmark in the city and then put together a write-up about the visit and place. Jack's location is Hamilton Grange which was the country home of Alexander Hamilton. We visited a few weeks ago (yep, we've have the assignment this long). Finally, Jack started putting together the project today. OMG, it was like watching me from 30 years ago. There was denial and defensiveness, then came tears and finally he produced really good work. If this is what the next 15 years are going to be like, we are in trouble. Also - sorry Mom, I know I tortured you with this experience many many times.
