Tubing (Winter Version)

Last Saturday, we headed out to Camelback Mountain in Pennsylvania for some snow tubing fun! To make the day even more fun, Rusty and Sheena, friends from work, joined us for the family adventure. We had hoped for a minivan to make it a true "family" event, but alas, Hertz only had a giant SUV (I did breathe a sigh of relief at this change!).

The mountain (or big hill as aptly described by Sheena) touts itself as the largest snow-tubing park in the US. While I can't verify that fact, I can say that the place was big, with lots of tubing runs and two "magic carpets" to get up the hill. We were lucky that it wasn't as super cold as it has been and that it snowed the entire day. What makes winter fun more fun? Snowy winter fun.

Once we were settled with our release forms signed, tickets purchased, and first ride up the magic carpet complete, the kids realized that there was only one way down...riding on the tube. Neither Jack nor Spencer were particularly excited about that option. Both were in tears when it was our turn to go down the hill. Spencer, who rode with me, was so upset that he was climbing out the double tube as I was trying to push us off. He went down the hill facing backward and practically hanging halfway out of the tube (not in a way that he'd get hurt). Jack rode first with Justin and had a similar experience. Spencer never quite warmed up to the hill - however, Jack realized that it was quite fun even with snow flying in his face.

On the last run down the hill, Jack, Rusty, Spencer, and Justin tied their double tubes together for a wicked fast ride. Rusty brought his GoPro and trusted Jack to hold it through the run. Check the video below for the final product.

The day was quite fun even it we didn't quite use our full 3 hours of sledding!

The last run of the day - Rusty trusted Jack with his Go Pro camera!

Called up

This weekend, the t-ball team was short a few players. Spencer was called up from the practice team to fill in. He was one of the smallest on the field, but played well, even teaming up with Jack for an out!

Veritable Dutch Wonderland

Mother's Day weekend, we planned a little trip out of NYC. We headed to Lancaster, PA - close enough for a night away, but far enough away to feel very different than NYC. The weekend was a lot of fun (and honestly a lot of work). All in all, the boys did well. Highlights below: Dutch Wonderland Lancaster is home to several tourist things. We picked one: Dutch Wonderland family amusement park. My cynical self really doubted that we'd enjoy this experience. I was worried that it would be cheesy. But I was wrong. Well yes, it was kind of cheesy because it was a family amusement park. But it was so fun. The place was very geared to families with young children. The rides are categorized by height so it's easy to know what rides your kids can ride. Jack tried several rides: big trucks, bulldozers, leaping frogs, the monorail. He even drove a car! He had a really good time. Spence was a good sport as there wasn't much for him to do. Maybe next year. Justin felt right ...

Good Morning

What is my big brother doing to me? Brothers hanging in Mommy and Daddy's bed.
