The Wonder of Trains

Have you ever been to Flemington, NJ? Have you ever heard of Flemington, NJ? We hadn't either - until this weekend. Flemington is home to Northlandz which has the world's largest model railroads. Given, that we are not connoisseurs of model railroads, I'm not going to argue with this claim (the site has a seal from the Guinness Book of World Records and when has the internet ever been wrong?). Even if it's not actually the world's largest, it's pretty big - like 8 miles of track with a meandering 1 mile walkway to view it all. It's big. And the boys absolutely loved it - exclaiming at almost every train that appeared from the nearly 400 tunnels and pointing out all of the bridges (and there were a lot of bridges). It was a fun day - worth the drive and something we'll likely do again. Of course - pictures. One of the canyons in the display On the train ride

Breakin' it Down

Jack and his best friend Jake are taking Hip Hop class this winter. It is a surprising hit - I wasn't sure if Jack would enjoy it or participate. Fortunately, he does both! Another surprise is that the class is six boys and one girl (who also happens to be in Jack's pre-k class). Today, I had the privilege of watching the last few minutes of their class. It was awesome. These videos capture some highlights. Enjoy! The day's routine. Freestylin'

Measuring up

Never underestimate the fun that can be had with a measuring tape. Jack loves ours. Tonight he measured: - his world map - the rug (well the first 100" to which he said wow that's a lot of measure) - and my favorite, the sky in his room (apparently our measuring tape is longer than I thought!) Ah the mind of a three year old!

Snow!!

We finally had a real snowfall!! Around 10" fell in our area making the city look like a winter wonderland for at least a couple of hours. We got the kids dressed for the snow. Many layers and at least 1/2 an hour later, we were ready to head to the park. I kept thinking of the scene from A Christmas Story when the little brother can put his arms down because his winter clothes are so thick. The park was beautiful! And people were everywhere. It was like a painting - families sledding and laughing and people going by on their cross-country skis. It was very fun. From previous winters, we knew of a good hill right at the entrance near us. We found that not only is there one good hill, but there are three! Off we went. Jack was excited to sled, but definitely not excited to get snow in his face. Jack even went by himself a few times - he did great, but he got a bit scared. Spence wasn't too sure about being out in the cold. He seemed to enjoy sledding though. First, w
