Prepping for Cape May

Marriage

Jack's current opinion on getting married is that he's never going to for two reasons. 1. he's not going to do anything that requires wearing buttons 2. he's going to be a bus driver On the flip side, Spencer already has pet names for his favorite girl - he refers to Imy as "Sweetie-pie".

Gov'nor

We did it! Last weekend we took a day trip out of the city. We feared the journey would be too much, but we persevered and we made it...All the way to Governor's Island. Here's a map of our route. You can see that it was riddled with distractions (changing trains) and delays (it was a weekend, so subway repairs always threaten progress). Seriously though, we headed out to Governor's Island with our friends Rena, John and Leo. Governors Island is just off the southern tip of Manhattan. By just off, I mean that you can easily read the sign above the dock on Governors Island while waiting to board the ferry on Manhattan. The island was a military base from the late 1700s until the mid-90s. It's now part of NYC and it being converted to lots of public space. Many of the buildings remain including an old fort and officer's housing (you can read more here ). The area with the officers housing reminds me of Chapel Hill - the commander's house is like a s

Growing up

Jack and Spence "graduated" from their respective preschool programs in the last couple of weeks. While the road along the way wasn't always the smoothest, the outcome couldn't be better. At Spencer's 2s club event, the kids demonstrated all the new skills they had learned in the gym. Lots of forward rolls, big jumps on the trampoline, and amazing core strength. The kids then enjoyed their favorite book of the year: mean soup. Afterward each child received an award. Spencer followed Jack's footsteps on this part by refusing to go up to accept the award. Regardless, we were so proud of Spence. He loved having his independence, being involved in a class, making new friends, and just having fun. Next year Spence starts preschool at the Y. Jack's tender care graduation was last friday. The event was held in the Little Theater at the Y. Jack was so excited to be on the stage. The class sang several songs ending with what has to be the anthem of kids 3

"I'm turning 3! I'm turning 3! I'm turning 3!"

Spencer's birthday was June 1st. He was so excited (as we all were - well, except for those of us who were wondering how three years have passed!) A few highlights 1. Balloons - we had picked up balloons on Saturday, a day before his party. When we got home with them, he grabbed the ribbons and started jumping and cheering "I'm turning 3! I'm turning 3! I'm turning 3!" It was pure joy!! 2. 5 Little Monkeys - This song is the class anthem for Spencer's 2's club class. All the kids absolutely love it. While the team was setting up for Spencer's party, I asked if they could find this song. They did and the results were amazing - picture 14 3 year olds jumping and dancing altogether. It was like Justin at a White Snake concert. Click here for a sample 3. Dancing = Jumping. Pretty straightforward when you're 3. 4.
